Numeracy - Multiplying 2 digit numbers with renaming

Grades: 4th Grade

Student Instructions

Today, we will be continuing our learning with multiplying. This time, we will see how we multiply 2 digit numbers that will bridge beyond our original place value (i.e. 28 x 2 = 20 x 2 = 40 + 8 x 2 = 16 .... the total would be made by adding the 16 and the 40 to give you 56). Work through the slides for the lesson and an explanation for the worksheet task. Remember to try your different multiplication strategies to help you - it might be easier to partition a number into its tens and ones and multiply the parts separately. WALT: multiplying 2 digit numbers with renaming Steps for Success: I can organse my numbers by their place value - remember ones, tens, hundreds, thousands I can identify the value a number holds: 23 = 20 and 3 I can multiply my ones and tens by my multiplier I can rename where needed I can try different multiplication strategies - column method, partitioning, arrays, skip counting, multiplication facts, repeated addition I can follow the correct steps for the strategy I am using (e.g. start with your ones column for the column method)
